Yamila Rodriguez, a striker for Argentina at the Women’s World Cup, has justified her decision to get a tattoo of Cristiano Ronaldo placed on her thigh by stating, “I don’t hate Messi.”

Fans from her own country took to social media to criticize the 25-year-old when they saw a tattoo of Portugal’s Ronaldo — the greatest adversary of Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi — on her left shin. Messi is Argentina’s team captain.

“Would you please stop, my health is deteriorating. When exactly did I declare that I disapprove of Messi? Rodriguez sent an answer to the question on social media.

“Messi is our wonderful leader in the national team, but just because I say that CR7 (Ronaldo) is my inspiration and my hero does not imply that I dislike Messi. Messi is our great captain in the national team. Enough, this is making me tired, and it hurts!

Rodriguez, who made his World Cup debut in Monday’s loss to Italy by a score of 1-0, has a number of additional tattoos, one of which is a portrait of Diego Maradona, a legendary player for Argentina.
