On Wednesday, the five-time defending champion Mumbai Indians defeated the Lucknow Super Giants by a score of 81 runs. This victory eliminated Lucknow Super Giants from the Indian Premier League (IPL) and kept Mumbai Indians’ prospects of reaching the final alive.

After Mumbai had registered 182-8, seamer Akash Madhwal took five wickets while allowing only five runs in his 3.3 overs to help skittle out Lucknow for 101 in 16.3 overs. This occurred after Mumbai had scored 182-8.

On Friday, Mumbai will compete against the defending champions, the Gujarat Titans, for the opportunity to play Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.

After making the decision to bat first, Mumbai got off to a brisk start, but they ended up losing both of their openers, Rohit Sharma (the captain) and Ishan Kishan, within the powerplay overs.

Cameron Green (41) and Suryakumar Yadav (33), who both contributed to Mumbai’s revival, were both dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq (4-38) in the same over, which brought them back to their previous score.

Even though Mumbai scored 51 runs in the final five overs of their innings, they were unable to reach the 200-run barrier, which at one point appeared to be within reach.

Early on, Madhwal put Lucknow in a difficult position, and three run-outs essentially disrupted their pursuit of the target as Mumbai seized the lead.

Marcus Stoinis hit 40 runs off 27 balls, however he was run out after colliding with his batting partner Deepak Hooda while sprinting between wickets. This collision led to the start of a collapse that Lucknow was unable to stop.

“Madhwal has been great. “The moment he came, we realized he is special,” Green said of his squad mate in Mumbai who is also from Mumbai.
