Mosaddek heroics take abahani top with win against msc0

After scoring 63 runs with the bat, Abahani skipper Mosaddek Hossain transformed into a hero with the ball, picking up four wickets to defeat Abahani’s fiercest rival Mohammedan in the Super League match that took place today.

At today’s match at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Abahani Limited skipper Mosaddek Hossain led his team to an exciting eight-run victory over their bitter rivals Mohammedan Sporting. The victory propelled Abahani Limited to the top of the table. Mosaddek Hossain successfully defended 20 runs in the final over.

Tanzim Hasan Shakib of Abahani got off to a hot start with the ball early on, claiming the wickets of Soumya Sarkar and Kamindu Mendis. On the other side of the field, Mohammedan skipper Imrul Kayes fell for one to Nahidul Islam, which put his team in a difficult position at 12 for 3 after the first five overs. While Mohammedan appeared to have no chance of winning until later batters made a game out of it, Nahidul bowled all 10 of his allotted overs without taking a break and allowed only 21 runs to be scored against him.

The game was turned around because to a 73-run stand that was put together by Mahidul Islam, who was in fine form at the time, and Ariful Haque. Following Ariful’s departure for 30 off 59, Mahmudullah Riyad and Ankon carried Mohammmedan’s hope with a stand of 87 runs. The pair needed 80 runs off the final eight overs, so they sped up their play. After scoring 88 runs off 113 balls in the 42nd over, Ankon was the first batsman to be eliminated before Riyad, who had scored 54 runs, was run out by Mosaddek.

In the 18th and final over of the game, Ariful Haque hit Mohammad Saifuddin for two sixes, effectively ending the contest. Ariful was out after scoring 26 runs off 14 balls, despite the fact that the team needed 45 runs off the final five batters. Afif’s direct hit ended his innings. Shuvagata Hom kept hopes alive, but Mosaddek, despite giving up a six off the first ball of the 50th over, defended 20 runs to offer Abahani an eight-run triumph. Mosaddek finished with four wickets for 51 runs. The goals were scored by Pacer Sakib.

Earlier, the Abahani innings got off to a shaky beginning, as they lost three wickets in the first 11 overs of their innings. Anamul Haque Apu took his vengeance on Bijoy by bowling a wonderful arm ball that skidded through and castled the right-handed Bijoy for 11 runs. This brought Bijoy back down to earth after he gave the impression that he was going to maintain his great form into the Super League stage by hitting Nazmul Apu for a nice six.

The second man-in-form, Mohammad Naim, was dismissed by the impressive spell of Mushfik Hasan when he dragged one to his stumps and was run out for a score of 2 from 20 balls. After that, Mahmudul Hasan Joy stole one off Khaled Ahmed and hit it to the gully to finish with 19 deliveries out of 23.

Abahani was certain that the young wicket-keeper hitter Jaker Ali and Afif Hossain would bring the innings back from the dead. Afif and Jaker put up a 75-run fourth-wicket stand before the latter sought to break the shackles set by a few dot deliveries, but his heave resulted in him being holed out at mid-wicket by Shuvagata Hom after a 40-ball score of 36. Jaker and Afif are credited with putting together the fourth-wicket stand.

During the 49-run stand that Jaker had with captain Mosaddek, Jaker scored 63 runs, and the captain went on to score 63 runs as well. Abahanai’s new foreign recruit Khushdil Shah hit a 29 off 25 balls, and together with Mohammad Saifuddin’s 16 off 18, they were able to post a score of 258 for 7. Mushfik continued to be the most effective bowler for the Mohammedans, finishing with two wickets and 32 runs conceded in 10 overs.

In the Super League match between Sheikh Jamal and Gazi Group that took place at Fatullah, Sheikh Jamal, who were in first place in the standings going into the game, were bowled out for a score of 89 all out.

Saif Hassan scored the most runs for the squad with 22, but only three other batsmen reached double digits. Gazi Group’s pacer Jaynul Islam and spinner Tipu Sultan ran amok, taking four and three wickets respectively. Mehedi Maruf scored 45 runs off 55 balls to lead Gazi to victory in their chase, which took place inside of 16 overs.
