Kylian Mbappe scored a contentious penalty late in stoppage time to win Paris Saint-Germain a 1-1 draw against a tenacious Newcastle United and retain their Champions League fate in their own hands on Tuesday.
The visitors had led the Group F encounter since midway through the first half owing to Alexander Isak’s tap-in, and they held off a late onslaught from the hosts.
Newcastle custodian Nick Pope made many outstanding saves, and his team was poised to complete a historic double against PSG after their 4-1 home victory, but referee Szymon Marciniak awarded the French club a penalty for handball against Tino Livramento.
Mbappe took a stride forward and sent a high ball past Pope to earn a critical point for Luis Enrique’s side, who are second in the group behind already-qualified Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund leads the group with ten points, while PSG has seven. Both Newcastle and AC Milan have five points.
