Mbappe goals see psg all but secure ligue 1 title0

A pair of goals scored by Kylian Mbappe helped Paris Saint-Germain to a 2-1 victory away at Auxerre on Sunday. With the victory, PSG effectively clinched their second consecutive Ligue 1 championship and ninth overall in the previous 11 years.

The two goals scored by Mbappe, which were his 27th and 28th of the season in Ligue 1, both came in the opening eight minutes at the Stade Abbe-Deschamps and set the stage for PSG’s triumph.

Lassine Sinayoko scored the equalizer for Auxerre early in the second half, but Paris was able to hold on for the win, which puts them six points ahead of Lens in the standings with two games still to play.

They need only a draw when they are away to Strasbourg the next weekend in order to officially be declared champions for a record 11th time in France.

Despite this, they have a goal difference lead of 16 over Lens, which implies that even if they finish the season even on points with their competitors, they will almost certainly win the title.

Mbappe started the score in spectacular fashion by taking a ball from Fabian Ruiz, then turning the inside out on the home team’s defender Gauthier Hein before firing high into the net.

Hugo Ekitike’s pass to Lionel Messi was intercepted by Kylian Mbappe, who fired a shot from the outside of the penalty area to make the score 2-0 two minutes later.

Sinayoko scored after Nuno da Costa headed on a long clearance downfield for him to go through and score six minutes after the interval to cut the hosts’ deficit in half. Earlier in the first half, the home team’s Rayan Raveloson struck the crossbar late in the first half.

PSG’s players, led by Christophe Galtier, had wanted to celebrate their league championship on Sunday, but a win for Lens in Lorient earlier in the day by a score of 3-1 assured that they would have to wait at least another week, regardless of how they performed at Auxerre.

Following the outcome, Auxerre remained one point and one position above the zone indicating automatic relegation with two games remaining in the regular season.
