After more than three decades of bringing the English Premier League into people’s homes throughout the country as a commentator for Sky Sports, seasoned English soccer analyst Martin Tyler has decided to put up his microphone.
During the course of his career, the 77-year-old has provided play-by-play coverage of hundreds of matches in the Premier League, the Champions League, and other international championships.
One of the most remarkable things he ever did was call out “Aguero-o-o-o!!” when Sergio Aguero scored the goal that won the title for Manchester City on the last day of the 2011-12 season.

“There will never be a day when ‘The Voice’ isn’t associated with the Premier League and Sky Sports. You automatically think of Martin Tyler whenever you hear the word commentary.
After working his way up through the ranks at ITV, where he was a member of the broadcasting team that covered the 1978 World Cup, Tyler’s tenure at Sky encompassed the whole duration of the Premier League, which began in 1992.
He was the team leader for ITV’s commentary for the 1982 World Cup and the 1984 European Championships. He again covered the World Cup in 1986 before signing with British Satellite Broadcasting’s Sports Channel in 1990, prior to Sky’s merger with BSSB.
According to Tyler, “in my opinion, the huge corporation that Sky is today has its roots in Sky Sports’ innovative and inspired coverage of the Premier League.”
Tributes have been pouring in from those Tyler commented on and collaborated with over his career.
“Martin is one of the all time legends of the commentary box,” Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool defender who is now an analyst for Sky Sports, remarked on Twitter. The sentence “Aguerooooo is one of the most iconic commentary lines in the history of the game!”
According to Sky Sports, Tyler will part ways with the organization before to the beginning of the new season.
