Manchester United declared that they were “fully committed” to playing in UEFA competitions following the announcement on Thursday by Super League organizers of a new breakaway event.
It happened when the European Court of Justice declared that UEFA, the European regulatory body, had suppressed the earlier proposal via unlawful means.
“We still hold the same position,” a statement from United stated. “We remain fully committed to participation in UEFA competitions.”
In April 2021, twelve of the top European clubs—including the Premier League’s “big six”—announced that they had committed to play in the Super League.
However, the plans were drastically derailed when teams pulled out in response to a wave of protest from players, politicians, fans, and governing organizations.
Following their prompt confirmation, Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Tottenham all decided against pursuing the plans, which would have spared the founding members from relegation.
