On Thursday, Belgian winger Jeremy Doku signed a five-year contract with Manchester City from French club Rennes.
The 21-year-old Doku is expected to set the European champions back £55 million ($70 million).
In a statement released by the City, Doku remarked, “This is a great day for me, both personally and professionally.”
“Manchester City is the finest team in the world of football, therefore for my family and I, joining them is really meaningful.
“As a young player, I still have a lot to learn and become better at. I’ll become a lot better player working with Pep (Guardiola) and his staff and playing with these working-class guys.
Doku, who made his debut as a youth with Anderlecht in his native Belgium, scored 12 goals in 92 games for Rennes.
After Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol, two Croatian internationals, he is City’s third acquisition of the summer window.
The triple champions were searching for a winger to take Riyad Mahrez’s spot when he joined the Saudi team Al-Ahli.
Before the transfer window closes on September 1, City are also anticipated to acquire a midfielder to fill in for Kevin De Bruyne, who is anticipated to miss up to four months owing to a hamstring injury.
Following the breakdown of interest in West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta due to a Football Association investigation into the Brazilian’s potential violation of betting laws, Matheus Nunes of Wolves and Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace are allegedly targets.
