As Bangladesh were building around a half-century from Najmul Hossain Shanto in the third and final match against New Zealand at Mirpur on Tuesday, Mahmudullah Riyad became the fourth Bangladesh batter to surpass the 5,000 ODI runs landmark.

Right-handed batter Mahmudullah attained the milestone in the 16th over by taking a single off of Lockie Ferguson. This allowed him to reach the previous high score.

The other three hitters for Bangladesh who have attained the milestone before Mahmudullah are Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mushfiqur Rahim.

The Bangladeshi team had reached 112 for 4 after 21 overs, with Mahmudullah batting on 10, and Shanto, who was standing in as the skipper, on 51.
