Coach Rahul Dravid said on Wednesday that star Indian batsman Virat Kohli would miss the first of his team’s three international matches against Afghanistan for “personal reasons”.
As the nations gear up for the T20 World Cup in June, Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma have both made their way back to the T20 squad after serving more than a year away. The series begins on Thursday in Mohali.
Press conference: “Virat Kohli will miss the first game due to personal reasons,” Dravid said.
“He will be playing from the second and third T20.”
The last time Kohli and Rohit played a 20-over match was in November 2022, when India fell to England in the Australian T20 World Cup semi-finals.
The final Twenty20 match will take place in Bengaluru on January 17; the second match will place in Indore on Sunday.
