Favourites Bashundhara Kings won the Independence Cup again today, beating Mohammedan SC 2-1 in the final at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj.
Kings, who were reduced to ten men after 48 minutes, fell behind five minutes into the second half, with Emanuel Sunday nodding in a Mozaffarjon Mozaffarov corner.
Mohammedan, on the other hand, could only keep their lead for two minutes when Kings leveled the score thanks to Rakib Hossain’s brilliant strike from inside the box.
Dorielton Gomes, a Brazilian forward for King, scored the game-winning goal with a clinical finish from inside the box only four minutes before the end of regulation time.
With the victory, the Kings have now matched Mohammedan’s three Independence Cup championships.
