Imrul Hasan, vice-president of the Bangladesh Football Federation and president of the Bashundhara Kings, has been named head of the Professional League Management Committee (PLMC) for the 2023-24 season, succeeding BFF president Kazi Salahuddin.

Hasan will be the fourth league committee head since the professional era began in 2007, following former Mohammedan Sporting Club director and BFF general secretary Anwarul Haque Helal, current BFF senior vice-president Abdus Salam Murshedy, and Salahuddin.

Although allegations of conflict of interest have been raised as a result of Hasan’s relationship with Kings, the BFF constitution makes no restrictions on appointing any BFF executive member representing the clubs as the chairman, deputy chairman and members of the BFF standing committees.

When asked how he would maintain his impartiality in the face of his club’s interests, Hasan said, “You will see it [neutrality] through the works.” I have a different identity while I’m here at BFF than when I’m at the club.”

Hasan, who formerly served as chairman of the Dhaka Metropolis Football League Committee, went on to say, “There is always debate on the referees, even in World Cup matches between Brazil and Argentina.”

“We believe sport is a difficult thing… But I will strive to execute my job effectively while keeping the dispute to a minimum.”

BFF president Salahuddin stated that Hasan’s appointment would be confirmed at the next meeting of the BFF executive committee, but he did consult with others before appointing “capable Hasan” to the position.
