Real Madrid released a statement on Monday confirming that they have acquired striker Joselu from Espanyol, a team that was recently demoted, on a loan for the next season with the option to purchase.

Before signing for Hoffenheim in Germany, the 33-year-old Spain international spent two years (2009–2012) playing for Real Madrid’s reserve squad, known as Castilla. During that time, he also had two appearances for Real’s main team.

In addition to his time spent at Stoke City and Newcastle United in England, Joselu spent the previous season playing for Espanyol. He finished the year with 16 goals in 33 games for Espanyol and earned his first call-up to the Spanish national team in March.

According to Real Madrid’s official website, “the presentation ceremony of Joselu as a new Real Madrid player will take place on Tuesday, June 20, at 11:00 a.m. at Real Madrid City.”
