Tamim Iqbal, the captain of Bangladesh’s one-day international squad, is now on holiday in Dubai.
While he was there, he talked to two media sites in Bangladesh on what would happen with his comeback to the team after the controversy surrounding his retirement.
The cricket player feels that when he finally says farewell to cricket for the last time, it will not be via a press conference even if the circumstances surrounding his comeback are still unclear.
Even though Tamim did not elaborate on the specific reasons for his decision to announce his retirement, it is safe to assume that everything will go back to the way it was before he made the statement if the circumstance that compelled him to make the announcement continues.
In an interview, he said, “There were enough reasons,” which can be found in the Dhaka Tribune.
“Another thing is that the decision was not made overnight,” he continued. “This is something that was taken into consideration.”
The left-handed hitter also discussed the reasons that drove him to make such a challenging choice in the midst of the Afghanistan series. This decision was one that he would ultimately rescind due to intervention from the Prime Minister.
“As I’ve said previously, there was one issue that I wasn’t particularly comfortable with over the last six to seven to eight months. Whatever the cause may have been, I had no intention of giving up. Cricket has absolutely nothing to do with anything at all. Even if I didn’t drive in any runs in the previous three series, it has nothing to do with how well I played. I kept battling and attempted to make a difference in the situation. When I realized that I couldn’t push myself longer, couldn’t fight, and that the situation had gone out of my hands, I thought, ‘that’s it, no more,'” he said in another interview with bdnews24.com.
The circumstances behind Tamim’s injuries are just as murky as his status as captain of the team. Tamim described two aspects that, in his opinion, were not functioning properly. The first was the chain of command, which he did not want to disrupt, and the second was that the fitness routines that had been prescribed to him did not take his history of injury into mind. He did not want to violate the line of command.
I have a great deal of respect for the chain of command. I play cricket for my country’s national squad, and Jalal Yunus is my immediate supervisor. Whatever it is that I need to do or say, I have no choice except to go via him and the department. Yes, I do have an open line of contact with the board president, who’s name is Nazmul Hassan, but I never wish to circumvent the established order of command. I will not claim that I have been able to keep this up one hundred percent of the time, but I do my best to do so. However, I must stress that this is not a very widespread practice around here,” he said to both of the outlets.
“The issue was that the discomfort in my back was radiating to other portions of my body, and as a result, I was unable to watch the India series.
“After that, I competed in the Bangladesh Premier League while receiving injections, but I was forced to stop after 10 games because I could tell that the pain was coming back,” he said. “I could feel it.” Due to the fact that we had series against England and Ireland, both at home and away, I did not take any chances. Those series didn’t bother me at all.
“The injury flared up once again when I was doing weights at the gym not too long ago. The issue that has to be asked at this point is whether or not the workout that I was performing at the gym is appropriate. “Why was I given an exercise that I shouldn’t be doing?” he said. “I should not be doing that.”
Tamim has said that everything is now dependent on his meeting with Jalal Yunus, who is the head of the cricket operations.
“I’ll sit down with the board to discuss the factors that led to my decision to retire. According to what he said to bdnews24.com, “if the situation stays the same, then I’ll still be at zero.”
Tamim did confirm, however, that he would not be holding a news conference the next time he says farewell to his fans.
“I am already enjoying my retirement,” I said. When I have to leave the game for the second time, I will not hold a news conference. That component is finished. There is no way that the news conference I gave earlier that day could have been any more truthful. He informed the media outlets that artificial tears and emotions are impossible to produce.
He said, “My retirement preparations have been completed.”
