As a result of a rain delay, umpires Shaun Haig (2nd R) and Kim Cotton (R) leave the field on December 29, 2023, during the second Twenty20 International between New Zealand and Bangladesh at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
As captured on live television, the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui continues to be plagued by inclement weather after precipitation interrupted play in the second quarter of Friday’s third Twenty20 International between hosts New Zealand and Bangladesh.
The Tigers seek another Bay Oval victory.
Rain interrupts the match eleven overs in.
Bad weather has halted the second match of the three-match Twenty20 International series at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui today, following eleven overs of thrilling action.
The host side are 72 for two after eleven overs after being given the opportunity to bat; Daryl Mitchell (18*) and Glenn Phillips (nine*) are in the middle.
Together, fellow pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Shoriful Islam have dismissed both of the New Zealand openers.

Each of the five Bangladeshi specialist bowlers has delivered a minimum of two overs. Unfortunately, Mustafizur Rahman failed to secure a wicket despite coming close to dismissing Mitchell in his second over twice. Both times, the ball fell agonizingly short to the deep fielder.

Tanzim disregards perilous The Seifert
In the second Twenty20 International played today, New Zealand’s Tim Seifert displayed impeccable timing as the right-handed batsman sped to 43 off 23 balls before Bangladesh pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib delivered the decisive blow for the visitors.
At the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, the Black Caps are 61 for two after eight overs. This venue has a history of hosting high-scoring matches.
Seifert’s onslaught comprised one maximum and six boundaries that were delivered from all sides of the field. However, while attempting to hit a second six, this time off Tanzim in his second over, he lost his footing and the ball soared as high as the floodlights before being deemed flawless at mid-off by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto.
Shoriful draws his initial blood with two pellets.
As the Bangladeshi pacer delivered the initial breakthrough today, Shoriful Islam, who is leading the bowling attack, continues to perform stupendously in New Zealand.
Despite this, the Black Caps remained unfazed as Tim Seifert scored 19 off nine deliveries to propel his team to 29 for one in four overs.
Finn Allen (2) was dismissed by a short-pitched delivery from Shoriful, which he misdirected to Rishad Hossain at extra cover via a lofted cut shot. The preceding over was commenced by Mahedi Hasan, who conceded nine runs on what appears to be a belter wicket.
Without Liton, Bangladesh chooses to bowl in the second New Zealand Twenty20 International.
Today at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, hosts New Zealand are scheduled to bat first in the second and penultimate Twenty20 International, which was won by Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto.
The Tigers have yet to achieve a victory in any format during an away series in New Zealand; therefore, Bangladesh have a chance to accomplish another historic first following a five-wicket triumph in Napier, which established a 1-0 lead for the Tigers in the series.
Eventually proceeding along the correct path?
However, a promising Shanto and company encountered a setback when keeper-batsman Liton Das, who amassed an unprecedented 42 runs for the team in the opening match of the series, was ruled out with a hamstring injury he suffered in the previous match. Liton is replaced by Shamim Hossain, whereas Rony Talukdar will perform the glovework.
“A low-grade strain of the right hamstring was confirmed by an MRI; he is therefore unavailable for the second Twenty20 international.” His rehabilitation has begun, Bangladeshi physiotherapist Kieran Thoms reported.
The host team, on the other hand, has maintained their current lineup.
