A friendly match between Inter Miami and New York City FC will be held to honour Lionel Messi’s record-setting eighth Ballon d’Or win.
That night, Nov. 10, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the club will honour him at their Noche d’Or (Night of Gold) party.
The 36-year-old Argentine will be able to show his famous trophy to fans at DRV PNK Stadium before the game.
At the ceremony before the game at 6 p.m. ET, Messi, team owner Jorge Mas, and MLS commissioner Don Garber will all give speeches.
New York City FC will play at 8 p.m.
Messi became the first current MLS player to win the Ballon d’Or on Monday in Paris. The award is given every year to the best player in the world. He has won eight times, which is three more than Cristiano Ronaldo, who came in second.
Messi led Argentina to victory in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He also led Paris Saint-Germain to victory in the 2022–23 Ligue 1 title before joining Inter Miami in the middle of July. In 14 games with the Herons, he scored 11 goals and set up 8 others.
