New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, who sustained a hamstring injury in the second Twenty20 against Pakistan, is unlikely to play again in the series, according to coach Gary Stead.
With the first Test against South Africa less than three weeks away, Stead suggested Williamson would likely miss the remaining two games as well.
“With the test matches so close as well and in the big scheme of things (they are) a higher priority I think we’ll try and make sure he’s right for that,” he added.
New Zealand leads the five-match series 2-0, with Williamson providing 26 off 15 before withdrawing injured in the second match, which his team won by 21 runs on Sunday.
Stead said that Tim Seifert was already planned to replace Devon Conway as wicketkeeper at some point during the series.
