Sunrisers Hyderabad won the Indian Premier League match against Delhi Capitals by nine runs, despite an impressive performance by Mitchell Marsh. Heinrich Klaasen’s unbeaten 53 helped Hyderabad score 197-6, which their bowlers defended by restricting Delhi to 188-6 at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground.
Marsh took 4 wickets and bowled a maiden over, and later scored 63 runs in 39 balls. However, his performance couldn’t save Delhi from their sixth loss out of eight matches as they are currently at the bottom of the table.
Marsh admitted that it took him some time to get into the game, but he was disappointed with the loss. He was awarded the man of the match, making him the third player this season to receive the award from the losing team. Despite some close losses, Marsh believes there is still a lot of time left in the tournament.
Hyderabad, a former champion team, moved up to the eighth position in the rankings after winning their only title in 2016 under the current Delhi captain David Warner, despite having lost three matches before.
Warner was dismissed for a low score, but Delhi’s batting looked promising with a partnership of 112 runs between Salt and Marsh. However, Hyderabad’s spinners took three wickets in quick succession, causing Delhi to struggle in their chase.
Mayank Markande, a promising leg-spinner from India, performed well with two wickets for 20 runs, including catching and bowling England’s Salt. Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma scored 67 runs off 36 balls, helping his team win the match after their captain chose to bat first.
After Hyderabad lost some wickets, their performance declined, but Klaasen, who achieved his first IPL half-century, collaborated with Abdul Samad to increase the score by forming a partnership worth 53 runs.
Gujarat Titans defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets in their first match of the day, thanks to a great partnership between Vijay Shankar and David Miller. The Titans were struggling at 93-3 while chasing a target of 180, but Shankar and Miller’s performance helped them reach the top of the table with 13 balls to spare at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Mohammed Shami, Josh Little, and Noor Ahmad were successful in limiting Kolkata to 179-7, despite Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s impressive 81. The match began 45 minutes late due to rain and a wet playing field.
Skipper Hardik Pandya praised man of the match, Little, an Irish fast bowler and Ahmad, an Afghan left-arm wrist spinner, for bringing his team back into the game and helping them stay competitive.
