The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Tuesday in a press release that David Hemp, a former player for Bermuda on the international stage, has been given the position of head coach of the High Performance Unit.

The 52-year-old had a fruitful first-class career as a batter for Glamorgan, Free State, and Warwickshire on the English county circuit. He played for Bermuda in a total of 22 one-day internationals and two twenty20 internationals.

Hemp, who had previously served as the coach of the Pakistan women’s team from 2020 to 2022, has been given a new appointment that will last for another two years, until June of 2025.

Toby Radford, a former assistant coach for the West Indies who had agreed to serve as the head coach of the HP unit beginning in August 2020 on a one-year contract, was unable to fulfill his obligations because of the pandemic.

During this time, the Sri Lankan Champaka Ramanayake served as the chief of the HP unit and was in charge of overseeing operations.

In addition, the BCB has selected Dr. David Scott to serve as the sports psychologist for the HP Squad. Dr. Scott is a recognized authority on the topics of behavioral modification and improving athletic performance.

In the meanwhile, Hemp’s first task will be the first part of the HP training camp, which will begin tomorrow at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. You can follow Hemp’s progress on this assignment here.

Physical screenings and fitness tests are going to be held in Dhaka from the 24th to the 31st of May as part of the first phase of the camp, which has been further divided into three parts. Following the completion of the training in Rajshahi, the camp will relocate to Bogura for additional instruction in a variety of specialties.

In the month of July, the HP Squad will go to Sri Lanka to compete in the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
