After being dismissed from the game, India opener Shubman Gill voiced his displeasure with the umpire and was subsequently penalized 15 percent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaking Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
After the fourth day of play, the incident took place when Gill voiced his disagreement with the judgment made by the umpires about his removal during the second innings of the competition on social media. Richard Kettleborough, an umpire for the television broadcast, ruled that Cameron Green’s catch, which led to Gill’s dismissal, had been made in a fair and legal manner.
Later in the day, Gill posted something on social media that gave the impression that she was questioning the choice that had been made.
The player, who is 23 years old, will also be subject to a punishment from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating “article 2.7 which relates to public criticism or inappropriate comment in relation to an incident occurring in an international match.”
“India’s Shubman Gill will also be subject to a punishment for what seemed to be criticism of the decision to give him out on the fourth day of the Test. This constitutes a breach of rule 2.7, which prohibits making public criticism or improper comments in reference to an incident that occurred in an international match. According to a statement released by the ICC, the young opener was given a sanction equivalent to 15% of his match cost.
“A catch made by Cameron Green, which resulted in the dismissal of Gill, was ruled to have been taken cleanly by the television umpire Richard Kettleborough. Later in the day, Gill posted something on social media in which it seemed as though she was questioning the choice that had been made,” the statement stated.
At The Oval, India was ultimately defeated by Australia in the final of the World Test Championship, which Australia won by a score of 204 runs.
