The Saudi Pro League club announced on Monday that Steven Gerrard would be taking over as head coach of the Saudi team Al-Ettifaq, despite the fact that he had earlier chosen against accepting the role.
A statement made by the former Liverpool and England midfielder a month ago indicated that he would not be accepting an opportunity to join the squad. In spite of this, the 43-year-old athlete has decided to join the expanding league, making him the most recent well-known figure to do so.
“This is the place where legends are made. On Twitter, Al-Ettifaq expressed his delight at the news that Steven Gerrard will be taking over as the team’s new head coach.
Rangers won the Scottish Premiership for the first time in ten years in 2021 under the guidance of the 43-year-old manager, who thereafter moved on to Aston Villa but was fired there in October of last year.
The transfer of Steven Gerrard is the most recent of many that have occurred since Al-Nassr bought Cristiano Ronaldo in December of last year. Former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema joined Al-Ittihad in June.
In the previous season of the Saudi Pro League, which is the highest level of play, Al-Ettifaq finished sixth.
