Enzo Fernandez and Levi Colwill scored their first Premier League goals to help Chelsea beat Brighton and Hove Albion 3-2 at a rain-soaked Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

World Cup champion In the 17th minute, Argentine Fernandez headed home a wonderful overhead kick from defender Benoit Badiashile, and Colwill, who was on loan at Brighton last season, made it two four minutes later from a Nicolas Jackson headed feed.

Chelsea appeared to be in control, but Brighton equalised two minutes before halftime with a curling shot by Facundo Buonanotte, and the home side had captain Conor Gallagher sent off on the stroke of halftime for a second yellow card after a sliding tackle on former Chelsea teammate Billy Gilmour.


At the opening of the second half, Brighton pressed Chelsea in numbers, but replacement James Milner couldn’t keep up with Mykhailo Mudryk on the counter and took him down. Fernandez scored his second goal from the penalty spot in the 65th minute, after a six-minute delay for a VAR check.

Brighton’s Joao Pedro ensured a tense last few minutes of added time with a looping header in the 92nd minute.
