Following their successful defence of the inaugural trophy of the season, the Independence Cup, the favored Bashundhara Kings will be eager to wrest another piece of silverware as the Federation Cup commences today.
The events of the inaugural day will take place in two different venues. In Gopalganj, the star-studded Kings will face Fortis FC, whereas in Munshiganj, Rahmatganj MFS will face Bangladesh Police FC.
Although Kings seem well-positioned to repeat Sheikh Russel KC’s 2012-13 treble, incumbent champions Mohammedan SC and runners-up Abahani continue to be the primary contenders to derail Kings’ celebrations.
Alfaz Ahmed, a former national forward and coach for Mohammedan, believes that Sheikh Jamal DC and Sheikh Russel will also contend for the championship. However, it will be difficult for all ten players to concentrate on the Federation Cup match on Tuesday after playing league matches on Friday or Saturday.
