In the second game of the three-match series, Bangladesh defeated South Africa 222-4 thanks to a century from Fargana Hoque, the women’s ODI captain. This victory put the team in a position to win the series for the first time ever at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom today.
Before leaving in the last over, Fargana hit 102 off 167 balls and nearly saw her through the innings. In addition, Fahima Khatun contributed a useful 46 off 48 balls to assist the Tigresses set a difficult goal for the Protea ladies.
For the hosts, Marizanne Kapp claimed a handful of wickets.
The right-hander became the nation’s first international centurion in women’s cricket history in July of this year at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur after scoring 107 against India in an ODI.
Similar to when she was dismissed against India in July, the 30-year-old was run out in the 50th over despite hitting 11 fours during her bat.
Bangladesh now has a strong chance to defeat South Africa in the ODI series and record a historic victory thanks to Fargana’s century.
The first ODI was won by Bangladesh by 119 runs.
