After sustaining a dislocated shoulder in the second test match against Australia, Ollie Pope was declared out for the remainder of the Ashes series on Tuesday, dealing a significant blow to England’s chances of reclaiming the urn.

Pope suffered an injury while playing fielding on the first day of the match at Lord’s last week. This injury made the situation much worse for England, since they were informed that they were not allowed to deploy a replacement fielder in the second innings.

The scans that were performed on the player, who is 25 years old, revealed that he requires surgery on his right shoulder. As a result, he will be forced to sit out the rest of the 2023 season.

In the third and final test between England and Australia, which will begin on Thursday at Headingley, Dan Lawrence is set to take Pope’s position as vice captain.

Since Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes took over as captains of the team in March of last year, Lawrence has been inactive and has not competed in a test match since he earned his eleventh and last cap.

The decision was made by England to not call up any more batting cover at this time.

“England and Surrey batter Ollie Pope has been ruled out of the rest of the Ashes series after dislocating his right shoulder during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s last week,” a statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board said. “The injury occurred during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s last week.”

“On Monday, scans performed in London showed the full extent of the damage, and as a result, he will be unable to participate in the remainder of the summer season and will need surgery.

Regarding his recovery, “He will collaborate closely with the medical teams from England and Surrey.”

After suffering defeat at Lord’s, England now find themselves down in the five-match series by a score of 2-0.

They have not won the Ashes since 2015, while Australia has not triumphed in England since the year 2001. This will be their first try to take the trophy since then.
