James Anderson, who holds the record for most wickets taken in the history of cricket, will not be playing for England in the third and deciding Ashes test against Australia, which will begin on Thursday at Headingley.
This is one of three lineup changes made by England.
According to a statement that was released by England on Wednesday, both Anderson and another paceman named Josh Tongue have been “rested.” In their stead, England has selected express fast Mark Wood and seam-bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes to take their spots.
Following England’s loss by 43 runs at Lord’s last week, spin bowler and all-rounder Mooen Ali has been reinstated to the England team in an effort to keep the Ashes series alive. England is now behind 2-0 in the five-Test series.
He takes over for Ollie Pope, who was forced to step down as vice captain after dislocating his shoulder at Lord’s and was declared out for the remainder of the season.
Harry Brook has just been elevated to the position of No. 3, taking Pope’s previous position.
The 688 wickets that Anderson has taken are the most by any fast bowler in the history of Test cricket; but, the swing specialist has struggled in this series so far, taking only three wickets at individual scores of more over 75.
Team England’s lineup for the third test.
Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow (wicketkeeper), Ben Stokes (captain), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Ollie Robinson, and Stuart Broad are the members of the English cricket team.
