The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Friday that Moeen Ali, who was nursing a finger injury in the first match, would be replaced by Rehan Ahmed in the Ashes team for the second Test against Australia to be played at Lord’s the following week. Ahmed will take Moeen Ali’s place as the spinner for England.
Ahmed, who is 18 years old, has only appeared in one Test match for England, which took place during their victory over Pakistan in Karachi in December 2022. During that match, he became the youngest bowler in the history of men’s Test matches to record a five-wicket haul on debut.
After claiming victory in the first match of the series earlier this week at Edgbaston by a score of two wickets, the second match of the Test series will commence on Wednesday. Australia now leads the series 1-0.
Ben Stokes will serve as captain of the England team, which also includes Rehan Ahmed, Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonathan Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Dan Lawrence, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes, and Mark Wood. In addition, the roster includes Zak Crawley.
