Only during the most recent series that was played in Sri Lanka did Dinuka Hettiarachchi become the spin bowling coach for the Bangladesh women’s side.
However, the fact that he would be the Tigresses’ very first spin coach lends relevance to the fact that his hiring was made.
On Monday, he was instructing younger spinners on how to bowl in the appropriate locations as his fellow countryman and head coach, Hashan Tilakratne, watched from the sidelines. The footage from the session were also analyzed, and the Sri Lankan spin coach, who has previously worked with the Sri Lanka women’s team, had a major objective in mind, which was to develop spinners who are on par with the best in the world.
During the session, he was seen working with the spinner Nahida Akter, and when questioned about it, he responded with “Lot of positives.” I believe that this is the very first time that they have had a coach for spin bowling. My own goal is to produce quality spinners for use in international cricket. Not the game played at home. Make an effort to get things right, but be aware that it will take some time. I used to work with the Sri Lanka women’s team, and as you probably well know, spinners in the subcontinent are generally doing pretty well, regardless of gender.
A significant number of the younger spinners who have not yet established themselves in international cricket have been participating in spin sessions with Dinuka.
The Tigresses are now in the middle of an important home series against India, and the team management is actively searching for fresh talent in preparation for the 2024 Twenty20 World Cup, which will be held in their country. Even though she was left out of the preliminary squad for the India series, seasoned spinner Rumana Haque will still have another chance to play, according to Dinuka, but for the time being, the team management is putting more of an emphasis on younger players.
“We have a good bunch of spin bowlers and are trying to change and play different bowlers for T20s and One-dayers,” said the head coach. Now I’m working with new cricketers and trying to bring fresh cricketers in, so we need experience, and we try to utilize Rumana as well,” he said, sharing his opinion.
“There are several extremely young people there, such Rabeya [Khan] and Sanjida [Akter] Meghla. “In addition, Nahida has experience,” he went on to say.
The Tigresses will be playing at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium for the first time since 2012, and the wicket has grass in it, which favors pacers periodically. This will be the first time since 2012 that the Tigresses have played there. It has come to light that the management of the Tigress squad would be looking to take spin wickets whenever possible.
Dinuka had high hopes that having the match played in Bangladesh would give Bangladesh an edge against India. It goes without saying that [there will be a home advantage]. Both India and we have young players with a lot of potential, but India has more experience. They will pick it up since it is a fantastic learning curve for them to bowl on spin wickets, slow wickets, and bouncy wickets when they practice and figure out how to do so via practice.
“Playing against India is not an easy task, but we have some promising spinners in the pipeline, and our younger players are excelling in this competition.” When asked about the home advantage and how they would counter India’s spin onslaught, he responded, “Hopefully we give India a good challenge.”
When he was asked whether his countrymen Hashan and Gamini De Silva, who is the chief curator at Mirpur, were making things simpler for him, he said, “It is [easier].” I worked with him for a total of two years, and Hashan is aware that I am putting in a lot of effort with the spin bowlers.
In general, he thought that the individual sessions that had been carried out just before the Eid breaks had been beneficial.
“We have a good tournament coming up against the India side, so it’s very important for the spinners to undergo these kinds of camps for the technical side of things and end up with good positive things,” he concluded. “It’s very important for the spinners to undergo these kinds of camps for the technical side of things and end up with good positive things.”
