Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia that won the World Cup, became the most expensive player in Indian Premier League history today after Sunrisers Hyderabad paid an incredible INR 20.50 crores to capture his services for the 2024 season in the IPL auction held in Dubai.
Cummins shattered the record held by English all-rounder Sam Curran, who in the previous season had won INR 18.5 crores from Punjab Kings.
To get the right-arm pacer, Hyderabad and the Royal Challengers Bangalore engaged in a fierce bidding battle.
Cummins, who did not participate in the IPL last year, helped Australia defeat India, the hosts, in the final to win their sixth World Cup.
The same team will also select his fellow countryman Travis Head, who won player of the final, for INR 6.8 crores.
