After being winless in their previous nine matches across all competitions, Chelsea finally broke their barren streak on Saturday with a 3-1 victory away at Bournemouth in the Premier League. This result was the first win for Chelsea under interim manager Frank Lampard.
Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix scored late goals to assist Chelsea climb up to 11th place with 42 points, while Bournemouth fell to 14th place, three points behind the London side having played a game more. Chelsea now has 42 points, while Bournemouth now has 36 points.
Conor Gallagher scored for the away team with a well-timed header to give them the lead. Bournemouth had two chances to take the lead in the first five minutes of the match, but the Chelsea defense was able to prevent both of them from happening.
Bournemouth performed a fantastic sequence of one-touch passes for Ryan Christie to set up Matias Vina, who curled his shot from the edge of the box past Kepa Arrizabalaga and into the top corner of the goal. This brought Chelsea to a standstill, but Bournemouth were able to equal the score.
Late in the second half, Chelsea took advantage of Bournemouth’s vulnerability on set pieces this season. Hakim Ziyech took a free kick and sent the ball to the far post, where Badiashile was waiting to score his first goal for the club. Badiashile beat Neto to the ball and scored his first goal for Chelsea.
This provided Chelsea with a boost, and they responded by swiftly making it 3-1 and securing all three points when Raheem Sterling made a driving move into the area before pushing the ball to Felix, who finished it off with relative ease.
