Jack Grealish, who plays for Manchester City, stated that their victory in the Champions League on Saturday was the culmination of years of hard effort to achieve their current position.
Pep Guardiola’s men became just the second team in history to win the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League in the same season as they defeated Inter Milan in Istanbul by a score of 1-0.
“This is what you work hard for throughout your entire life. Grealish, who was in an emotional state, told BT Sport that he was crying because he was so thrilled.
“I was terrible, but that doesn’t matter to me. It means a lot that this team of players and staff was able to bring home all three trophies.
“Anyone who knows me knows how much of a family person I am and how much I love football, and this is what I’ve worked (for) my whole life,” he said. “This is what I’ve worked (for) my whole life.”
Grealish struggled in his first season at City after being signed for a then-record £100 million in 2021, but he has been essential to an all-conquering campaign since then. The signing of Grealish set a record for the Premier League at the time.
And Grealish was sure to show his appreciation for Guardiola, who won the Champions League for the third time as a head coach.
“He’s a genius,” Grealish remarked afterward. “I would want to extend my gratitude (to him). You are the one who has brought this about for me. You have placed a great deal of trust in me by paying a significant sum of money to get my services.
“Even the year before, when I was playing crap, he stayed there with me, and this year he’s given me that platform to perform, so I just want to say thank you to him,” I said. “Even though I was playing crap, he stayed there with me.”
