Trent Boult will play international cricket again. On Wednesday, he was named to the New Zealand ODI team that will play England in September before the World Cup.
Boult, who is 34 years old, will play his first 50-overs international in a year when he is part of the 15-person team to play England.
Last year, the Black Caps didn’t pick him because he turned down a central deal to play in Australia’s Big Bash League, which pays well.
After making a “casual playing agreement” with New Zealand Cricket earlier this year, Boult is back in the team and on track to play at the ODI World Cup in India in October.
Gary Stead, the head coach of New Zealand’s ODI team, said, “It’s great to have Trent back in our ODI unit as he starts getting ready for the World Cup.”
Boult is one of the best ODI bowlers in the world. He has taken 187 wickets in ODIs and another 74 for his country in T20s.
Kyle Jamieson, who has taken 72 wickets in 16 Tests, also returns to the New Zealand white ball team after a back surgery.
Batter Tom Latham is in charge of an experienced team that includes Test captain Tim Southee, who is about to start bowling with Boult again.
Between September 8 and 15, England and New Zealand play four ODI internationals.
Stead said that England will give New Zealand a good test before the ODI World Cup.
“England has been a good white-ball team for a long time, and we’re excited to play them at home on the day before the World Cup,” he said.
Kane Williamson tore the ligaments in his knee in April. As part of his recovery, he will train with the New Zealand team in England.
The Black Caps also play three Twenty-20 matches against the United Arab Emirates in Dubai from August 17-20, and four Twenty-20 matches against England from August 30 to September 5.
At the end of September, New Zealand will play three ODI games in Bangladesh.
