On June 5, Abu Hossain, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), resigned from his post at the BFF, citing his illness as the reason for his resignation.
This resignation came more than one and a half months after the general secretary of the BFF, Abu Nayeem Shohag, was suspended by the Investigatory Chamber (IC) of the FIFA Ethics Committee for financial irregularities.
Abu, who had been with the local game’s governing body immediately after Kazi Salahuddin became BFF president in 2008, accompanied Shohag to the FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, to attend the hearing before IC. Shohag was also there. The subsequent inquiry of BFF’s activities is still going on at the time of Abu’s departure.
up addition to Abu, BFF manager of operations Mizanur Rahman also handed up his resignation last Thursday, citing personal reasons for doing so.
“Yes, they have resigned, and it is within their rights to quit; that is the standard operating process. “The general secretary [of the BFF] has also announced the job openings to fill up those posts,” said the president of the BFF, Kazi Salahuddin, adding that they were attempting to rebuild the entire system, which was something that they needed to accomplish.
In response to a question, Salahuddin said, “We did not say anything [about the resignation], but he (Abu) knew that he will not be able to survive after the completion of the [further] inspection [by BFF after BFF disclosed the financial irregularities],” Salahuddin said. “We did not say anything [about the resignation],” Salahuddin said. “No matter what they say, there is no question that there was an error in our [financial] system. since of this, he [Abu] has to shoulder the blame since the chairman of finance would not look at the files. Even though Shohag was the fourth signing, he nonetheless accepted responsibility for the agreement.
