In the third and final one-day international match of the series versus Ireland, which took place on Sunday in Chelmsford, Bangladesh prevailed over Ireland by a score of four runs to claim victory.
After the first game of the series was called off due to weather, Bangladesh was able to complete the sweep with this victory.
In their pursuit of 274, the home team was bowled out for 270 for nine thanks to a four-wicket haul from Mustafizur Rahman and a clinical performance in the last over from Hasan Mahmud, who shined with two wickets. Mustafizur Rahman also took four wickets.
It was decided that Mustafizur, who finished with figures of four for 44, was the player-of-the-match. However, Najmul Hossain Shanto was awarded the player-of-the-series trophy for scoring 152 runs over the course of the two matches.
With set hitters Harry Tector and Lorcan Tucker at the crease, Ireland was cruising along at 223 for the loss of three, requiring 51 runs off 54 balls to win the game.
However, the captain of Bangladesh’s cricket team, Tamim Iqbal, made the brilliant choice to bowl part-timer Shanto in the 42nd over, which provided Bangladesh with an unusual opening.
It was a smart move on Tamim’s part to send in Shanto in order to break the 79-run partnership that Harry Tector and Lorcan Tucker had put up because the off-spinner sent back the dangerous Harry Tector for a score of 45 off of 48 balls. Tector, who had scored a scorching 140 in the previous match, intended to take on the part-timer but was unable to clear the long-on boundary when trying to muscle a short-of-a-good-length delivery in the 42nd over. This occurred after Tector had scored 140 in the previous match.
After that, the left-arm bowler known as Fizz took control, as he was responsible for three crucial wickets in only three overs. These wickets belonged to Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, and Lorcan Tucker, and they helped tip the scales in favor of the visitors. The left-arm pacer only allowed nine runs to be scored in the three overs that he bowled over the final 10 overs of the innings.
Hasan was able to take care of the remainder of the problems as he took two wickets and stopped Bangladesh from scoring 10 runs in the last over to win the match for Bangladesh.
After being given the opportunity to bat first, Bangladesh was quickly bowled out for a score of 274.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehedi Hasan Miraz were batting for the visitors when they seemed like they were going to post a score higher than 300. However, when the former was dismissed in the 46th over following a 75-run partnership with the latter, the Tigers were only able to add 12 runs for the loss of four wickets and still had seven balls in their possession.
The team’s skipper, Tamim Iqbal, had the highest score with 69 off of 82 balls, and Mushfiqur contributed a 45 off of 54 balls.
Mark Adair of Ireland was the star of the show, taking four wickets, while Andy McBrine and George Dockrell both took two wickets for their team.
