At the Tin Kwong Road Recreational Ground in Hong Kong on Monday, Bangladesh got off to a strong start in the ACC Women’s Emerging Asia Cup by dominating Malaysia by a score of 97 runs and winning the match convincingly.
After making the decision to bat first, the Tigresses scored 148 runs for six while holding Malaysia to 52 runs for eight.
Shorna Akter scored 20, while Murshida Khatun led the way with an undefeated 57 off of 44 balls with seven fours, putting her in first place.
As Bangladesh reached the milestone of 150, Rabeya Khan remained not out on 15.
The Malaysian team had three players take two wickets each: Nur Dania Syuhada, Aisya Eleesa, and Mahirah Izzati Ismail.
As a result of Bangladesh’s tight bowling during the Malaysian innings, the team that was batting next was in a bit of a predicament from the very beginning.
Rabeya, a leg-spinner for Bangladesh, grabbed two wickets while allowing only seven runs over the course of her three overs. Marufa Akter, Sanjida Akter, Nahida Akter, and Sultana Khatun all claimed one wicket apiece for Bangladesh.
In the upcoming group match, which will take place on June 14 at the same location, Lata Mondol and her team will compete against Sri Lanka A.
