Bangladesh a salvage draw in rain-hit affair0

Rain, which played a crucial role throughout the match, once again came to the rescue of the Afif Hossain-led side in the first of the three matches that make up the unofficial Test between Bangladesh A and their West Indian counterparts yesterday at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The encounter was the first of three that make up the unofficial Test.

In their second innings in response to the visitors’ first-innings total of 417 runs, Bangladesh finished the final day on 187 for seven when play was called off owing to bad light, with just 49.1 overs completed on the day. Bangladesh was already behind by 192 runs going into their second innings.

Jaker Ali went undefeated on 36 while Shadman Islam led the team in scoring with 64 runs off of 90 deliveries. Jair McAllister, who was named player of the match, took two more scalps in the second innings after he had already taken five in the first innings.

Regardless of the final score, the tourists were clearly the superior team during all four days, completely outperforming the visitors in each and every category. Beginning on May 23 at the same location is the second four-dayer that is scheduled.
