Bangladesh A were able to clinch a position in the semifinals of the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup after defeating Afghanistan A by 21 runs in their last group game at the P Sara Oval yesterday.
This victory was made possible by Mahmudul Hasan Joy’s century, which helped Bangladesh A secure the win.
After Afghanistan made the decision to bat first, Bangladesh produced a score of 308 for seven before holding them to 287 for eight. Due to the fact that they finished in second place in Group A, Bangladesh will play in the semifinals against whomever emerges as the winner of Group B. This will be determined after today’s match between Pakistan A and India A.
After just six overs, Bangladesh’s score was reeling at 34 for three and they were in a bit of problem. The first batter, Tanzid Hasan, was out after scoring nine runs, while the second batter, Naim Sheikh, was out after 19 runs off 18 balls after once again failing to make an impression.
The ship’s skipper, Saif Hassan, also left hastily before Joy and Zakir were able to stabilize it and steer it into Bangladesh. Zakir scored 62 runs off 72 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes on his way to being removed after the duo had shared 117 runs for the fourth wicket when Zakir was out.
Joy, on the other hand, remained, and eventually achieved his second List A hundred spot. His innings of 100, which consisted of 114 balls, ended in the 47th over after he had hit 12 boundaries and two maximums.
Bangladesh’s score over the last five overs of their innings increased by 52 runs because to contributions from Soumya Sarkar (48 runs off 42 balls) and Mahedi Hasan (36 runs off 19 balls, including six fours, one six, and a maximum).
Riaz Hassan, the opener for Afghanistan, had the highest score with 78, and Bahir Shah was still not out with 53 when it became clear that the mark was too high for them to reach.
For Bangladesh, pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib was responsible for three wickets, while left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan and left-handed batsman Soumya Sarkar each took two wickets.
