Kai Havertz, a German offensive midfielder, was recruited to a “long-term contract” by Arsenal on Wednesday after he was released by Chelsea.
Neither team has announced the amount of the transfer price, although British media reported that Arsenal will pay Chelsea 75 million euros or 65 million British pounds.
He is Arsenal’s first acquisition of the summer, although British media claimed that the club had agreed to pay West Ham 105 million British pounds for England midfielder Declan Rice. Rice now plays for West Ham.
Havertz joined Chelsea in 2020 from Bayer Leverkusen. He played 139 games over the course of three seasons and scored 32 goals, the most important of which being the game-winning goal in the 2021 UEFA Champions League final triumph over Manchester City.
Last year in the Premier League, Arsenal finished in second place, while Chelsea, who were in the process of rebuilding their team, finished in 12th.
You can see that the mindset of the Arsenal group is quite high because of how they play. Havertz mentioned this as one of the reasons why playing against Arsenal as of late has been so challenging on the website for the Arsenal football club.
“The objective is to bring home trophies, and I intend to do everything in my power to make that happen.”
On one of his social media accounts, he said goodbye to Chelsea with a post.
He said that he was writing “with a heavy heart…saying goodbye to the club that has become my second home, and to the incredible fans who have supported me throughout this amazing journey.” He also thanked the fans for their support throughout his career.
The manager of Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, stated that Kai is a player of the highest caliber. He can play a wide variety of positions and is a very savvy player. He will provide a great deal of additional muscle to our midfield, in addition to adding diversity to our style.”
