In the Premier League on Saturday, Arsenal were held to a 2-2 home draw by 10-man Fulham, depriving Mikel Arteta’s team the provisional top position in the standings.
Andreas Pereira scored the game-winning goal for Fulham in only 57 seconds after seizing on an errant back ball from Bukayo Saka. Seeing goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale far off his line, the midfielder fired from 30 yards out to quiet the home fans.
After an hour had passed, though, Arsenal was awarded a penalty for a foul on Fabio Vieira, and Saka earned himself a point with a confident penalty shot in the pouring rain. Two minutes later, Vieira sent in a cross for Eddie Nketiah to score, bringing Arsenal’s lead to 2-1.
Calvin Bassey’s second caution for a dirty tackle on Nketiah to stop a counterattack reduced Fulham to 10 men, but Joao Palhinha’s goal from a corner in the 87th minute salvaged a draw for his team.
