The Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) made the announcement on Monday that Marcelo Bielsa will take over as the national team’s head coach. According to several sources in the media, Bielsa has already signed a contract that will run until 2026.

As a result of Uruguay’s elimination from the World Cup round of 16, the Argentine takes over as manager in place of Diego Alonso, who was previously in charge.

“The fans are demanding more games, and they want to feel something. The statement that was posted on the organization’s official Twitter account, which also announced Bielsa’s appointment, stated that “the time has come.”

After leaving his position as head coach at Leeds in February 2022, Bielsa will be making his way back into the coaching world on Wednesday, when he is scheduled to be introduced at a news conference.

After an absence of 16 years, Bielsa guided Leeds to promotion to the Premier League.

The 67-year-old has previously managed Argentina and Chile in the World Cup in 2002 and 2010, respectively. He has also spent time with Olympique de Marseille and Athletic Bilbao in the past.

Next month will mark the beginning of Bielsa’s term, and it will be kicked off with two home friendly against Nicaragua and Cuba.
