Lionel Scaloni, the coach of the Argentina national team, said on Wednesday that Lionel Messi “deserves” his high-profile move to Inter Miami.
Scaloni’s comments came as Argentina prepared for a friendly match against Australia in Beijing.
Messi, the captain of Argentina’s national team, made the announcement last week that he would be joining the MLS club at the conclusion of his two-year term with the French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Scaloni said at a news conference in the nation’s capital, “I’m very happy that he has decided to go and play for a club in a city that is going to treat him very well,” in reference to the player’s impending move.
“The most important thing, regardless of the league or the country, is that he feels comfortable in the city and in the club,” the coach said.
I have faith that he will be able to relax and take it easy there since he so well deserves it.
On Tuesday, Messi said that the World Cup he competed in over the winter was likely his last tournament.
During the upcoming World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the seven-time winner of the Ballon d’Or will turn 39.
When asked by China’s Titan Sports whether he may play in the 2026 tournament, he said, “I have said several times before that I don’t think so, that that (2022) was my last World Cup.” He was responding to the question of whether or not he might participate in the event.
On Wednesday, Scaloni remarked that Messi’s “statement seems to me to be very prudent.” Messi’s comment was for the team’s future.
“He is a man who doesn’t tell lies, and the reality is that we’re going to see how he feels,” he added. “He is a man who doesn’t tell lies.”
Because the World Cup is still so distant in the future, it is pointless to focus about anything other than that right now.
On Thursday evening, a friendly match between Argentina and Australia will take place at the Workers’ Stadium in Beijing, which has a capacity of 68,000.
The match will be a rematch of the round of 16 encounter that took place at the World Cup, when Argentina defeated Australia 2-1 in Doha thanks to a goal scored by Lionel Messi.
The Albiceleste eventually prevailed against France in the World Cup final, winning on penalties to claim the title.
