Agarkar named india's new chairman of selectors0

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday that Ajit Agarkar, a former fast bowler for India, has been given the position of head of India’s selection committee.

After India’s elimination from the Twenty20 World Cup semi-finals in Australia in November, the senior selection committee, which was helmed by Chetan Sharma, was first terminated as a result of the team’s performance.

Sharma was reappointed earlier this year, but he resigned in February after being caught in a sting operation in which he made charges about players using injections to heal from ailments more quickly and playing despite the fact that they were not match-fit.

Agarkar was most recently a coach with the Delhi Capitals of the Indian Premier League, however the two parties severed ties following the conclusion of this year’s campaign.

According to a statement released by the BCCI, “The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC)… interviewed applicants for the position of one selector in the Men’s Selection Committee,”

“Mr. Ajit Agarkar was recommended for the aforementioned position by all three members of the CAC in unanimity.”

Agarkar, who joins Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, and Sridharan Sharath on the selection committee, was appointed chairman based on seniority, which counts the total amount of test matches played. Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, and Salil Ankola all serve on the selection committee.

The 45-year-old bowler represented India in a total of 349 matches across all forms, including 26 tests, 191 one-day internationals, and four Twenty20 games. He took 349 wickets.
