As a result of their 17-run defeat according to the DLS in the first one-day international (ODI) match against Afghanistan at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowhdury Stadium yesterday, Bangladesh were given a rude awakening after their previous series victories and also their annihilation of Afghanistan in the lone Test that took place barely a month ago.
The Tigers were finally able to score 169 for 9 in 43 overs when the game was cut short due to rain, and Towhid Hridoy played a matured knock, smashing a 51 off 69 balls, despite losing partners in the middle order. The hitters for the Tigers had a below-par day, with the majority of the top-order being out to careless shots; nonetheless, Hridoy thought that they are capable of correcting their mistakes.
Shakib Al Hasan and Hridoy put up 37 runs for the fourth wicket, but after Shakib’s exit due to a careless shot, there were no significant partnerships that formed. According to Hridoy, the circumstances were acceptable, but the squad did not do well at bat.
“No, the circumstances didn’t seem like that (they were difficult), but the challenge that we had was that the wicket was a little bit low and had fluctuating bounce. If our batting had been a little bit stronger, the outcome of the game would have been different. Overall, we didn’t bat well,” he added.
Bangladesh hoped that the batsmen who came in after Shakib would be able to hold out and regain control of the game, similar to how Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Afif Hossain had done so with a partnership of 174 runs during the most recent home series against Afghanistan in Chattogram. According to Hridoy, the conversation in the locker room has been very light since everyone there has previous experience extracting themselves from difficult circumstances.
“We have been in situations similar to this one in the past, but I believe that day someone performed well. After seeing how successfully Miraz bhai and Afif played together in the previous season, we had high hopes that they would go on to form a strong combination in the future. It didn’t work out, but I have high hopes that the next time this circumstance arises, something positive will take place,” he remarked.
“Everyone here is experienced enough and has spent a significant amount of time competing for their country’s national squad. There is nothing left to teach them since everyone already has a good deal of experience. Individually, they will overcome difficulties of this kind and emerge victorious. He went on to say that the topic of conversation in the locker room was about how the team had everyone’s support.
Both the line and length of the Afghan pacers’ deliveries were inconsistent, while the spinners failed to produce a significant number of exceptional deliveries. Wickets were discarded, and Hridoy believed that they needed to reduce the number of foolish errors.
We are going to make an effort to cut down on the simple errors that we committed, and we do believe that we have a shot at winning the series if we give it our all. He came to the conclusion that while many of us were unable to perform at our peak, if just two or three of us can make a contribution, we would be able to stage a return.
