100-year-old Vanzini ‘would give up pension’ for an Inter win

100-year-old vanzini ‘would give up pension’ for an inter win0Enrico Vanzini, an ardent supporter of Inter Milan, traveled all the way to the club’s stadium at San Siro to see his favorite team play for the first time in 2022. He was 99.

“I was seven years old when I first discovered my interest… Vanzini, who is now 100 years old, shared his story with Reuters and said, “I was never able to go, and I had no money.”

Vanzini, a Holocaust survivor, is now looking forward to the Champions League semi-final fight against city rivals AC Milan on Wednesday. He will watch the first leg match from the comfort of his nursing home in the city of Padua, which is located in northern Italy.

He was wearing an Inter t-shirt with his name emblazoned on the back of it when he made the statement. “I prayed to God to give me the joy of Inter winning, and hopefully He will agree,” he added.

“I would do anything (for a win), including (giving up) my meager pension,” I said to the audience.

A soldier in the Italian army during World War Two, Vanzini was caught by the Germans as a prisoner of war when Italy surrendered to the allies in 1943 and survived the last months of the fight in the Dachau Nazi detention camp.

After returning home, he worked as a bus and truck driver.

In the early 2000s, Vanzini started testifying about his experiences during the Holocaust. To commemorate the occasion of his 100th birthday, Inter sent him a t-shirt with the club’s logo.

He begins each day by staring out the window and anticipating the arrival of the postman so that he might read la Gazzetta dello Sport, which is Italy’s most widely circulated sports daily. In addition to that, he has an iPad and has figured out how to use the applications on it to watch sports.

“In the past, I used to visit friends who had a television … and if I was driving the bus I used to tell people: ‘Don’t shout please, I have to listen to something’.” It was the play-by-play of Inter’s games that was broadcast on the radio.

He had high praise for Simone Inzaghi, the manager of the squad, adding that he “made very few mistakes.” However, he has a proposal that might assist the squad in defeating Milan and advancing to the Champions League final for the first time since 2010.

“In the first half, we must not get too tired, and everyone must be in their place,” he stated. “If we do either of those things, we will be in trouble.”
