Raphael Varane, a defender for Manchester United, scored the game-winning goal late in the game, and the hosts held on to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 in the Premier League on Monday, despite not playing very well and not having many good chances to score.
After 76 minutes, Varane’s shot gave United all three points. Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s dinked cross found him in the six-yard box, much to the joy of a nervous home crowd and a frustrated boss, Erik ten Hag.
Wolves had been seen as a club in chaos over the past week because they sold off some of their best players and their manager, Julen Lopetegui, left the team without warning. Lopetegui was replaced by Gary O’Neil, who used to run Bournemouth.
But it was the guests who had the better chances. They had more than enough chances to win, and a late penalty call at Old Trafford was turned down by the VAR.
