Tamim Iqbal, who captained Bangladesh in one-day internationals (ODIs), announced his decision to stand aside from that post on Thursday.

Tamim explained his decision to stand down by saying, “I thought that it would be better for the betterment of my team to step down,” adding that he told the Prime Minister about his choice.

Jalal Yunus, the head of cricket operations for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), said that Tamim will not participate in the forthcoming Asia Cup as a player but would make himself available for the World Cup in India.

The BCB has not yet reached a conclusion over who would captain the Tigers in the Asia Cup.

On August 31, Bangladesh will open their campaign for the Asia Cup against Sri Lanka in Kandy. This match will take place. On September 3, the Tigers will wrap up their participation in the group stage with a match against Afghanistan.
