Even though England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt scored a hundred without being out, Australia won the Women’s Ashes with an exciting three-run win in the second one-day international at Southampton.
England had to get 283 to win, but they only got 279-7. With the last ball, five runs were needed to win, but Sciver-Brunt could only hit a single against Jess Jonassen, so she was still not out at 111.
Australia now has an unbeatable 8-6 lead in the multi-format series. England’s best chance is to tie the series at 8-8 by winning the third and final ODI on Tuesday in Taunton.
But Australia will still keep the Ashes even if the series is split.
Sunday’s win at Hampshire’s offices was made possible by the last over of their game, when Georgia Wareham hit England quick Lauren Bell for 26 runs.
